VIÑALES VALLEY
To Pinar del Rio - (1 h 49 min / 180 km; direction Autopista Este-Oeste )
Vinales National Park is one of the most spectacular places in Cuba.
Just a few hours' drive from Havana, the Viñales Valley is a unique landscape dotted with giant "mogotes" (karst formations) surrounding an enchanting valley with rich red soil and majestic palm trees. This is one of Cuba's most fertile areas, where some of the world's best tobacco is grown, harvested, dried and processed.
- Visit to Casa del Veguero (the tobacco farmer's house), where you will sample a welcome cocktail and appreciate the tobacco plantations, a traditional industry of the province; OR Cigar factory (not Saturday or Sunday).
- Visit to the Viñales Valley Lookout, which offers a beautiful overall view of the valley;
Visit to Indian Cave with boat ride on the underground flowing river;
- Visit to the Prehistoric Mural that illustrates the evolutionary process in the Sierra de los Organos, from mollusks to the first human inhabitants of the region.
Maria Luisa can prepare a ham and cheese sandwich, a fruit and a bottle of water for your lunch (€ 7.00).
GUAMÁ AND BAY OF PIGS
(1 h 35 min /178.0 km; direction Autopista Trinidad). Drive south of Havana through the rural countryside of Matanzas province.
- Ask to rent a boat to go up the Hatiguanico River. Take an ecological walking trail that ends at the river estuary. Swimming here is recommended!
- Visit the crocodile farm (the second largest in the world) and, if you like, take another boat trip across Treasure Lagoon to the Taínos Village, a replica of a Cuban aboriginal settlement.
- You'll have another opportunity to swim and snorkel at the Punta Perdiz Center-near Playa Girón-where the Bay of Pigs meets the Caribbean Sea.
Bring your swimsuit, towel and sunscreen.
Maria Luisa can prepare a ham and cheese sandwich, a fruit and a bottle of water for your lunch (€7.00), or you can try the crocodile meat in Guama!
VARADERO BEACH
( 1 h 46 min / 153.7 km; direction Vía Blanca )
Varadero's world-famous beach and Cuba's main tourist destination offers an impressive spectacle to visitors from around the world.
Bathed by the crystal-clear water of the sea caressing the shore, with more than twenty kilometers of white coral sand and exuberant tropical vegetation of palm and coconut trees, the resort is a true paradise.
